Finding the right cigar for you is always an exciting adventure. But finding those rare gems? That could be a tad bit exhausting and frustrating. These “unicorns” of the cigar industry may be so hard to find because they’re collected privately and remain in the small circles of the cigar industry.
El Reloj (in Spanish "the clock") is a one of a kind cigar, made
in the last operating cigar factory in Tampa, Florida, once the
fine cigar capital of the world. This flavorful smoke is valued
at a very affordable price. The 8" by 53 ring stick features
quality aged tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and
Honduras that are wrapped in a rich Ecuador Havana Seed Sungrown
leaf.
Craig Cunningham, owner of Esteban Carreras Cigars has introduced
a new line in the Esteban Carreras lineup. The Esteban Carreras
Cashmere Cigars are a bold blend delivering a medium to full
bodied smoke in an Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper. Don't be
confused by the wrapper of this cigar, the all Nicaraguan core of
this blend delivers good amount of strength, with rich notes of
cedar, leather and spice ending with a creamy, aromatic finish.
Not normally found on Connecticut seed wrappers. So those who
like the flavor profile of Connecticut shade but what a cigar
with a good amount of body then this is sure to be right up your
alley.
Like he’s done in recent years, Craig Cunningham of Esteban
Carreras approached the 2019 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show with a
game plan: release one new line and don’t say anything about it
prior to the doors opening.
For the new Unforgiven line, Cunningham got into the world of
barrel aging, specifically both the tobacco and the finished
cigars. In putting the new cigar together, he acquired and shaved
down a number of barrels that previously held Flor de Cana 18, a
Nicaraguan rum, saying that by the time he finished prepping
them, the majority—but not all—of the rum aroma and flavor is
gone, though not completely. However, what he really wanted was
the age of the barrels and the spirits within them, feeling it
would give the cigars the effects he desired. He also noted that
it’s one of the most robust, full-flavored cigars he had
released.
Oh, baby! Do I have a cigar for you! Ok, ok, I realize I sound
like a used car salesman here, but I’m just pumped about the new
Evelio. Supremely smooth, with a slightly sweet tip, you could
enjoy these all day long. Made from all Dominican long-fillers,
Evelio is topped off with a lovely, golden Connecticut-seed
wrapper. Silky smooth, mellow, and pleasant - to me, this an
enjoyable morning cigar. But with these prices, you could afford
these any time of day.
Made by Luciano & Ace Prime Cigars at Tabacalera Pichardo in
Nicaragua, which is also the source for a number of Crowned Heads
cigars. Fiat Lux is Latin for the biblical phrase, “Let there be
light.” But Luciano adds that the reference is closer to the word
“enlightened,” as in when you discover “the complexity of
flavors” along with “the possibility of introspection” as you
smoke. Sounds like heady stuff. Yet the Fiat Lux is far from
heady in pleasure.
ACE Prime co-founder Luciano Meirelles rolled Fiat Lux with a
dark, high-priming, ACE Prime estate grown Ecuador Sumatra
wrapper. Estate grown Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Pueblo
Nuevo, Jalapa and Ometepe complete the full-bodied recipe.
The inspiration from the brand’s name can also be seen in the
names of the line’s four sizes, all of which come in boxes of 20
cigars. They are Insight, Intuition, Genius, and Acumen. Best
suited for cigar smokers with a fair amount of experience, this
is one line of cigars you may actually want to savor during a
more solitary and uninterrupted session to fully appreciate its
complexity. So, add a box of Fiat Lux by Luciano to your cart
and... let there be many lights.
Smooth-bodied and rich, General Grant is a mellow Dominican
handmade with smooth tobacco flavors. Draped Sumatra wrapper,
General Grant utilizes smooth-aged ‘Cuban sandwich’ style blend
of filler tobaccos.
For a quick and tasty little smoke, try these cut-filler
Pequenos. Nice flavor, quality tobaccos are left from the
trimmings of the regular production Havana Classico blend, and
quick smokes.
A price that's out of this world. For a quick and tasty

Headley Grange cigars are a truly unique blend that has been
described as big, bold, and gutsy. Available in 5 shapes, Headley
Grange are handcrafted at Tabacalera La Alianza in Santiago, DR
with a blend of all Nicaraguan long fillers and binders expertly
rolled in Ecuadorian-grown Sumatra wrappers. Headley Grange also
made the Best Cigars of 2012 and The 25 Best Cigars of The Year
lists. Try a box of these impressive cigars that brim with
complexity and a head-turning aroma.
The only hesitation that occurred was when I re-evaluated my
career in the cigar business after being offered this sorry
cigar. I took the maker's word that they're mellow, smooth, and
not vomit-inducing. Just to make sure though, I outsourced the
tasting process to a trio of palate-challenged dudes across the
hall from me. They musta been knee-deep in the sauce because they
gave Hesitant Pirate a unanimous thumbs up. I guess the $29.99
per bundle price tag for 20 big Churchills had something to do
with it. One thing is for sure: there's no accounting for taste.
In the 1920’s J.C. Newman’s top-selling cigar was a little brand
known as “Judge Wright.” Back then, the line had a simple slogan,
“A fair trial will give a verdict in favor of this cigar.” Now,
I’ve got to be honest. My experience with any sort of court is
limited to Judge Judy and Law and Order reruns. However, if I
were a judge, I’d throw anyone who didn’t like this cigar out, as
they must be insane.
This cigar is a straight up value, and I’d recommend getting in
early and often. Judge Wright is a Nicaraguan puro with a Sun
Grown wrapper, but unlike some similar blends, this one stays
smooth and medium-bodied throughout. The ‘Cuban sandwich’ blend
has great flavors of earth, leather, and slight spice. There’s
nothing else I can say here, Judge Wright is a great everyday
cigar. Case dismissed.
Pennies compared to the continuously rising prices of their
full-flavored Dominican counterpart, but eerily similar in flavor
and quality. Expect solid construction and a full-bodied, complex
taste that’s highly enjoyable and highly affordable. This Cuban
sandwich style blend is the easiest way to keep your humidor
chockfull of awesome handmades.

In terms of elegant, high-end brands, the iconic cigars that
inspired this blend are easily number one. But along with their
rich history comes an even richer price tag – and retail prices
over $20+ each. At hand is a very close second, for about one
tenth of the price. Enjoy this mellow, yet rich,
Connecticut-wrapped beauty featuring aged Dominican long-fillers
and a balanced profile.
La Imperiosa - translated as the Imperative - is yet another

Larutan by Drew Estate Egg - Maduro (5.7" x 99) is made in Esteli
Nicaragua and features a magnificent blend of long-filler
tobaccos from Haiti, Turkey, Sryia, the Dominican and St. James
Parish. This particular cigar is draped in a dark Cameroon Maduro

produces a medium-bodied profile with a mesmerizing aroma!
The Drew Estate Natural "Larutan," which recently had a name
change due to regulations. So, Drew Estate made it easy just
going with "Larutan," which is Natural spelled backwards. The
brainchild of founder Jonathan Drew. Each one of the Natural
cigars is handmade in Esteli, Nicaragua with a host of different
exotic long-leaf tobaccos from Syria, Haiti, Turkey, Dominican
Republic and St. James Parish, Nicaragua and additional regions.
Each cigar features its own unique blend, so things are never
boring with the Natural. Natural cigars impart a unique,
distinctive taste you won't find anywhere else with an almost
rich, pipe tobacco-like flavor, but without he infusion process
of Drew Estate's ACID cigars.
Creating a follow-up to the original Legends by Drew Estate blend
is a task we didn’t take lightly. The original Legends by DE is
an absolute monster. A near-perfect cigar, with over 1,000
reviews and a 5-star rating. How do you top that? Well friends,
we’ve finally found an answer. Introducing the Legends Black by
Drew Estate – a delectable morsel that’s truly the “yin” to the
original’s “yang.”
Legends Black is a new infusion, leading to a richer, deeper
experience than the original line. Featuring a Brazilian wrapper
leaf over top-quality Nicaraguan long-fillers, this perfectly
crafted handmade sings with the sweetness of a bar of chocolate,
while adding enough complexity on the finish to stand up to a
tall glass of bourbon. An instant classic.
Jonathan Drew is a creative force, formulating some of the
industry's most innovative cigars. His inspiration for the
'Copper Label' (this blend's former name) was a fusion of ACID,
Natural, and traditional blends....and he nailed it. CI Legends
by Drew Estate easily stands among the best infused cigars that
Drew Estate produces.
Hugged by a beautiful Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, this
stunning handmade combines bold Nicaraguan long-fillers with a
leaf of Dominican Piloto. These lush tobaccos have been carefully
influenced by the delicious nuances of amaretto and hazelnut,
completing a savory experience. After a sweet start, it coats the
palate with loads of creamy flavor, offering a rich core of
coffee flavors complemented by notes of hazelnut and pepper.
Mellow to medium-bodied and oh-so-enjoyable.
