The newest entry in Cornell & Diehl's Cellar Series is Bijou, a flake made of toasty-sweet 2003 crop red Virginia which is combined with exotic Katerini orientals from Greece, to which a bit of honey is added. The tobaccos are layered and pressed and then sliced into flakes. The folks at C&D estimate that the blend will be at its most enjoyable with ten to fifteen years on it, so buy a few - one to try now and others to age. Bijou is French for jewel, and it's an apt term to describe this gem of a blend.

Cornell & Diehl took the concept of a navy flake and turned it on its ear with their uber-popular Black Frigate, The begin with, it's a crumble cake, not a flake. Next, it contains a good amount of Latakia, and there's also some Turkish tobaccos in the mix. The most traditional part is the Virginia that's been imbued with rum. The result is a hearty blend that's rich and smoky with a hint of sweetness and tang from the rum, and some earthiness from the Turkish. If you want a "think outside the box" navy flake, C&D's Black Frigate might be what you're looking for.

Decidedly old fashioned in flavor, this easy-smoking blend is finished with a dark fruit note that perfectly compliments the tobaccos. For a real trip down memory lane, try C&D's Epiphany.
