These little nuggets are made of a neutral-tasting, highly-absorbent material that you put in the bottom of the chamber. Then, fill your pipe normally. As the moist smoke moves past the crystals, they absorb moisture from the smoke to help stop the gurgling. Also, they create a little air pocket so you'll get slightly better airflow as well. They are reuseable so just set them aside after each use until they dry out.
